SORSOGON PROVINCE (October 28) – Following the longest election ever conducted in the Philippines, Provincial Election Supervisor Atty Calixto Aquino reminded those who run for the recently concluded Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council posts to submit their Sworn Statement of Electoral Contributions and Expenditures in duplicate forms on or before November 10, this year.
Aquino said candidates who win or lose during the Oct. 25 elections must submit said statement so as to avoid being penalized for the first and second time or from disqualification the third time they run again for any elected position.
”Comelec Resoultion No. 9043 sec. 18 states that they have to submit their Statement of Electoral Contributions and Expenditures to the local election office where they filed their certificate of candidacy, otherwise they will not be allowed to assume office on November 30,” said Aquino.
Meanwhile, candidates who won the barangay and SK election can have their oath-taking before any duly authorized administering officers of their choice. (Bennie A. Recebido, PIA Sorsogon)

INVESTMENT AND FINANCING FORUM PINANGUNAHAN NG PSMEDC

SORSOGON PROVINCE (Oct. 28) – Bilang pakikiisa ng Provincial Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council (PSMEDC) sa pagdiriwang ng Kasanggayahan Festival ngayong taon, pinangunahan nito ang isang araw na investment and financing forum na kasalukuyang isinasagawa ngayon dito sa lungsod ng Sorsogon.
Ayon kay Marinela Hernandez, Business Development Division head ng Department of Trade and Industry Sorsogon inimbitahan nila ang mga MSMEs sa lalawigan upang makapulot ng mga kaalaman kung papaanong makahanap ng karagdagang puhunan at mapalago pa ang kanilang mga negosyo.
Sa forum ay ilalahad ni Rosita Imperial, regional program coordinator ng Department of Agriculture region V ang Pili Industry Situationer and prospects.
Sa hapon ay tatalakayin naman ang mga sumusunod: SB Corporation ”Financing Facilities”, Development Bank of the Philippines ”Retail Lending for Micro and Small Enterprises, ARDCI ”Micro Financing Facility” at ang Department of Labor and Employment ”Integrated Livelihood Program”.
Umaasa naman ang pamunuan ng PSMED Council na sa pamamagitan nito ay matutulungan ang lokal na MSMEs dito lalo pa’t marami ding mga Investment Priority Areas dito sa lalawigan ng Sorsogon ang sa ngayon ay tinukoy na at di maglalaon ay magbibigay sa kanila ng mga panibagong business opportunities.

SORSOGON HOLDS ELECTION IN REMAINING 38 BRGYS, OCT 27

SORSOGON PROVINCE (Oct. 27) – Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Calixto Aquino in an interview shows optimism that election in all barangays in this province will finally be over today, Oct. 27.
Aquino said this following yesterday’s postponement of election in thirty eight barangays in Donsol town due to lack of ballots.
He said that as of 10:00 AM on Monday, Oct. 25, Donsol receives only 4,000 ballots, short of 18,462 ballots to provide the town’s total voting population of 22,462.
“With this circumstance, the Municipal Election Officer in consultation with the Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) and barangay officials in the said town deemed it wise to conduct partial election in 13 barangays where the 4,000 ballots earlier received can be utilized,” said Aquino.
With the arrival of the needed ballots at around 10:00PM last night, election was pushed through at exactly 7:00 AM this morning in the remaining barangays of Donsol and is expected to end at 3:00 o’clock this afternoon.
“By tomorrow or even tonight, we already expect results,” said Aquino.
Other areas in Sorsogon that declared postponement were the towns of Pilar, Gubat, Castilla, Juban and Irosin and five other barangays in Sorsogon City however, all these areas were able to hold elections yesterday and have already proclaimed the winning candidates both for Barangay and SK posts.
Meanwhile, amidst criticisms Atty. Aquino remains composed and was thankful that no untoward incidents were noted both in the conduct of election and in terms of peace and order situation in the whole province since Monday.
Asked as to the turnout of voters, Aquino said it is still very early for him to determine particularly that they are still waiting for complete reports from the Election Officers of different towns and one city of Sorsogon.
The province of Sorsogon has a total voting population of 391,282 for barangay and 29, 659 for the Sangguniang Kabataan.
Of this number, a total of 1,371 candidates filed their candidacy for Punong Barangay, 10, 956 for Barangay Kagawad, 1, 465 for SK chairman and 7, 317 for SK kagawad. (Bennie A. Recebido, PIA Sorsogon)

SORSOGON ENTREPRENEURS NAKAPAGTALA NG MAHIGIT P2-M KITA SA GINAWANG ORGULLO KAN BICOL REGIONAL TRADE FAIR

SORSOGON PROVINCE – Pumangalawa ang lalawigan ng Sorsogon sa nakapagtala ng pinakamalaking kita sa isinagawang 14th Orgullo kan Bikol - Regional Trade Fair (OKB-RTF) na ginanap sa SM Megamall, Manila, noong unang linggo ng Oktubre ngayong taon.
Ayon kay DTI Provincial Head Leah Pagao, umaabot sa P2,087,197.50 ang naitalang kinita ng mga lumahok na Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) mula dito sa Sorsogon.
Pumangalawa ang Sorsogon sa Camarines Sur na nakapagtala naman ng P2,312,797.00 na kita. Sa kabuuan ay nakaipon ang OKB ng total sales na P7,930,128.00 mula sa anim na lalawigan sa rehiyon ng Bicol.
Samantala, sa mahigit isangdaang manufacturers at exhibitors na sumali, tatlumpo ang nakilahok na mga MSMEs mula sa Sorsogon, kung saan ipinakita nila ang mga natatanging industriya ng lalawigan tulad ng bags, baskets, housewares, furnitures, furnishings at iba pang homestyle and living products, pati na rin ang mga pagkaing gawa sa pili, prutas, halamang-ugat, gulay at mga marine products.
Ayon kay Luth Samson-Elizaga ng Coastal CORE, dagdag karanasan at exposure sa kanila ang ginawang trade fair lalo na’t nabigyan ng pagkakataong maipakilala sa mas malalaking mamimili ang mga produktong gawa ng kanilang mga partners sa komunidad.
Aniya, sa katunayan, ilang mga wholesalers na ang kumontak sa kanila upang umorder ng kanilang handicrafts.
Nakilahok din sa OKB ang mga kinatawan ng Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Office sa pangunguna ni Provincial Tourism Officer Cris Racelis bilang institutional exhibitor.

ELECTION UPDATES IN SORSOGON
SORSOGON PROVINCE (October 25) – At around 1:15 this afternoon today, the Municipal Election Officer of the Municipality of Irosin, Ms Jay Dometita announced the official postponement of its Barangay Elections today by invoking Comelec Election Resolution No. 9078 since she stated, it will be very impossible for them to conduct it properly due to the very late delivery of election paraphernalia. The election will be conducted tomorrow starting at 7:00 AM up to 3:00PM.
In the same manner Election Officer of Juban , Armina Lota Lacsa also announced that voting will also be postponed today in their municipality and reset tomorrow at the same scheduled time. The municipalities of Pilar, Donsol and Gubat have also announced the same situation.
Brgys. of Tugos, Ticol, Talisay, San Juan and Sirangan in Sorsogon City, likewise, declared postponement of elections . Reasons of such postponement include incomplete paraphernalia, lack of ballots and the long delay of distribution of election paraphernalia.
While earlier Prov'l Election Comelec Supervisor, Atty. Aquino said that elections in the whole province will be pushed through, the Municipal elections Officers of the above mentioned municipalities deemed it wise to postpone said activity in order not to muddle the election results and provide voters the chance to really vote.
Some voters in Sorsogon City were also disgruntled with some polling precincts which are not yet opened as of this time due to the very late delivery of election paraphernalia. Some voters who even went home and who came all the way from Manila and some other provinces just to vote for their candidates in their barangay have expressed total disgust as to the conduct of this year's elections.
The heavy rains within Sorsogon City is also expected to cause a poor turnout of voters since a lot of voters went home already specially those who came very early this morning to vote. The very long line of voters at of this time has also caused some more upheaval and some were complaining as to finding their names in the voters list.
Meanwhile the Barangay Elections in Casiguran and remaining towns, although quite late, have been pushed through.
In related development, at 4:00 PM today, Election Supervisor Atty. Aquino announced through a radio interview that extended holiday tomorrow, Oct. 26, will be in effect only to areas where holding of elections were postponed. (PIA Sorsogon)
