Soldier clash with NPA rebels, seized encampment and bombs at Bulusan, Sorsogon


BULUSAN, SORSOGON Sept 7 – An NPA encampment was seized and improvised landmines were confiscated by Army Soldiers after a clash with communist rebels at around 10:00 A.M. of September 6, 2012.

Lt. Col. TEODY TORIBIO, Commanding Officer of 31st Infantry Battalion said that he sent a platoon of his troops led by Lt. ABDUL HAMID SALIK to check the reported encampment in Brgy. San Isidro Village. “accordingly his men were approaching the bushy portion of the area in Sitio Capiricohan of said barangay.

When they were met with fires with at least 45 bandits, triggering an intense gun battle he said. The soldiers overrun the encampment when the rebels fled with their dead comrades. Several landmines and bomb materials were confiscated by the soldiers. Two (2) soldiers were killed while 4 others were wounded in the clash.
         
The wounded soldiers were brought to a local hospital for medical treatment. (NFMarquez, SPPO/PIA Sorsogon)
