Some
3,000 propagules were planted on Jan 25, 2013 by nearly 600 multi-sectoral representatives
in almost half a hectare area in
Brgy. Gimaloto, West District, Sorsogon City under the Mangrove Reforestation and Enhancement Program of the
provincial government. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources
Office (PENRO)-LGU spearheaded the planting activity in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and other stakeholders (Phil.
Army, Phil. National Police, Phil. Information Agency, Provincial Tourism Office,
Energy Development Corporation, DepEd, Provincial Agriculture Office, students of ROTC, and fisher folks). The P1-M project targeting a 25-has to be planted was granted to Seaweeds
Growers Association, Inc., a people's organization composed of fisher folks of Brgy. Gimaloto, Sorsogon City. A commitment signing was also held during the launching of the said activity. (BARecebido, PIA Sorsogon/photos: Lyn Jimenez)
