SORSOGON CITY, June 28 (PIA) – The emergence of more vigilant consumers who are aware and conscious of their rights led to various complaints lodge at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Sorsogon Provincial Office.

DTI Sorsogon Public Information Officer Senen Malaya said that for the period covering January to May of this year, twenty-two (22) complaints have been received seven of which thirty-two percent (32%) involve electronic gadgets like cellular phones and computers while the others involve various products from shoes to motorcycles and services rendered.

“On the other hand, business establishments that put high value on customer satisfaction have as a strategy established consumer assistance counters or similar desks to attend to their clients concerns,” Mr. Malaya added.

Encouraged earlier by the DTI and the Sorsogon Consumers Association (SORCASS) with the idea of establishing a Consumer Welfare Desk (CWD), the management of Save More-Sorsogon allowed four of their staff to participate in the orientation training on the “Setting-up of Consumer Welfare Desk in Business Establishments” held on June 11, 2013 held at the establishment’s training room.

The training was conducted by Mr. Senen Malaya and Mr. Rodrigo Doctor both of the Business Regulation and Consumer Welfare Division (BRCWD) of DTI-Sorsogon. Ted Malecki of SORCASS also shared his inputs on the importance of having CWDs in business establishments.

The newly trained CWD Officers are: Angelica Otivar, Rea Doctor, Marie Angeli Marchan and Nissa Llaneta. The CWDOs were thankful of the knowledge they acquired from the training and suggested to be invited in related seminars conducted by the DTI.

Immediately after the training the CWD of Save More-Sorsogon was launched in time for their Freedom Day Sale the following day, June 12, 2013. (BARecebido, PIA Sorsogon/DTI)
