PILI,
CAMARINES SUR – To support the National Greening Program and the celebration of
Arbor Day, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) conducted
several tree planting activities in various areas in North Luzon.
Despite
inclement weather conditions, around 2,650 assorted seedlings were planted in
host community areas from June 25 to July 3, 2012. The number is expected to
increase as more tree-planting activities have been scheduled next week in parts
of Central Luzon.
NGCP’s
tree planting activities conducted nationwide are in conformance with the
Integrated Management System (IMS) policy and commitment to environmental
protection and enhancement.
The
National Greening Program, implemented through Executive Order 26, is the
government’s priority program to integrate and harmonize all greening
initiatives of the government, the civil society and the private sector in
order to address poverty, food security, environmental stability, and climate
change.
The
greening program specifically seeks to plant 1.5 billion seedlings in 1.5
million hectares of public lands nationwide in six years, from 2011 to 2016.
NGCP, a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and
developing the country’s power grid, fully supports the said greening program.
