Patiribayan Skills Competition. Sorsoganon demonstrated extra ordinary skills as they compete during the “Patiribayan sa Kasanggayahan” Skills Competition, a competition on the unique skills vis-à-vis known products produced in the province re Pagsalad nin Bayong (Bayong weaving for Buri and Caragumoy), Pagtilad sin Pili (Pili Shell cracking), Pagbis-ang (Fish/Danggit deboning), Pagpisi sin Bonot (Coco coir rope making), held at the Capitol Grounds on October 13, 2012. Said competition is spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sorsogon. (BARecebido, PIA Sorsogon)



1st “PATIRIBAYAN SA KASANGGAYAHAN”
SKILLS COMPETITION HELD
  
"Tiriladan" (pili-nut cracking) skills competition
SORSOGON CITY – In coordination with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, Local Government Units and the Kasanggayahan Foundation, Inc., the first “Patiribayan Sa Kasanggayahan” Skills Competition was conducted last October 13, 2012 at the Capitol Kiosk, Capitol Compound, Sorsogon City as one of the highlights of the Kasanggayahan Trade Fair 2012.  There are four competing skills categories - “Pagtilad sin Pili”(Pili Shell Cracking), “Pagbis-ang sin Danggit”(Danggit Deboning), “Pagsalad sin Bayong” (Bayong Weaving) and “Pagpisi sin Bonot”(Coco Coir Rope Making).  A total of 40 contenders competed in the different categories coming from the different barangays of the fifteen municipalities and one city of the province.

Adjudged as winners  were Ms. Jojie B. Evaristo, San Julian, Irosin, Sorsogon, 93 pili shells cracked (whole nuts) in 3 minutes (Pagtilad sin Pili), Ms. Lerma Fajardo, Diamante, Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon, deboning of ½ kilo danggit in 7 mins. and 40 seconds (Pagbis-ang sin Danggit), Ms. Arlene Haz, Cagang, Barcelona, Sorsogon, weaving 10”x4”x12” bayong in less than 1 hour with quality craftsmanship and Ms. Cecelia Balalilhe  wth Gerry Son Judin and Maria Co, Bolos, Irosin, Sorsogon, roping of 15 meters (10mm size) in 3 minutes (Pagpisi sin Bonot).  Winners received certificates and cash prizes of P2,000.00 and for “Pagpisi sin Bonot”, P3,000.00.  

Contenders from Irosin and Matnog (2nd and 3rd place winners for Pagtilad sin Pili), Sorsogon City and Bulusan (2nd and 3rd place winners for Pagsalad sin Bayong), Pto. Diaz (2nd and 3rd place winners for Pagbis-ang sin Danggit) and Irosin and Casiguran (2nd and 3rd place winners for Pagpisi sin Bonot).  The second and third prize winners received cash prizes of P1,500.00 and P1,000.00 for “Pagtilad sin Pili”, “Pagbisang sin Danggit” and “Pagsalad sin Bayong” and  P2,000.00 and P1,500.00 for “Pagpisi sin Bonot”.

Special awards were also given to Ms. Sheila Destacamento of San Isidro, Bacon District, Sorsogon City for cracking 101 pili shells (whole nuts) in 4 minutes and Ms. Angelia M. Nuelan of Banuang Gurang, Donsol, Sorsogon for weaving “kinabanan”, a special/intricate weaving style.  Cash prize of P500.00 were awarded while non-winners received P200.00 each. 

The “Patiribayan . . . . . . . . .” not just give enjoyment to the onlookers and the public but gained magnitude on visualizing the deeper side of the various industries in the province.  The competition is aimed to stir entrepreneurial awareness and cultural appreciation on the essence of Kasanggayahan in line with the promotion of culture and tradition of the province as well as give recognition to exceptional talents and skills of industry workers.

Judges for the skills competition were Ms. Emelda J. Navarro, President, Srosogon Bankers Association, Mr. Joseph John J. Perez, Board, Kasanggayahan Foundation, Inc. and representatives from the industry sector concerned, Mr. Ryan D. Detera (Pagtilad sin Pili), Mr. Joselito Domdom (Pagbis-ang sin Danggit), Mr. Fernando G. Millano (Pagsalad sin Bayong) and Mr. Jesus G. Gabionza (Pagpisi sin Bonot).
