Mga opisyal at tanod sa barangay sinanay ng BFP Bulan

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 16 (PIA) – Matagumpay ang isinagawang seminar at pagsasanay para sa mga opisyal at tanod sa barangay kamakailan sa isang barangay sa Bulan, Sorsogon ukol sa pagsalba sa buhay at ari-arian at pag-apula ng apoy sa panahong nagkakaroon ng sunog.

Ayon Manuel Gernale, Brgy. Chairman ng Zone 2 Bulan, dahilan sa nakita niya ang malaking kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng kasanayan ng mga opisyal, tanod at maging ng buong komunidad laban sa sunog at bilang tugon na rin sa pagpapaigting ng kampanya ng BFP Bulan ukol sa pag-iwas at paglaban sa sunog kung kaya’t minabuti niyang imbitahan ang mga tauhan ng ahensya upang magbigay ng pagsasanay sa kanila.

Humigit-kumulang sa apatnapung mga opisyal sa barangay, tanod at mga kasapi ng isang non-government organization sa Brgy. Zone 2 ang aktibong nakilahok sa nasabing aktibidad.

Kabilang sa mga tinutukan ng mga tagapagsalita ng BFP Bulan ang tungkol sa tamang pag-iwas sa sunog, pagsugpo, pag-apula at pagsalba sa buhay at ari-arian ng mga residente sa panahong nagkakaroon ng sunog.

Binigyang komendasyon naman ni SFO4 Tomas D. Dio, Fire Marshall ng BFP Bulan ang naging hakbang ni Brgy. Chairman Gernale lalo pa’t layon ng aktibidad na mapataas ang kamalayan at kaalaman ng komunidad ukol sa mga usaping may kinalaman sa apoy at sunog.

Ikinatuwa din ni Dio na sa kabila ng pagiging abala ng mga kalahok ay nakita niya ang pagnanais ng mga ito na makakuha ng mga kaalaman na magagamit nila sa pagtitiyak ng kanilang kaligtasan sa araw-araw.

Ilan sa mga kalahok din ang personal na nagpaabot ng pasasalamat sa BFP Bulan at nagsabing hindi umano mababayaran ng anumang halaga ang kaalamang nakuha nila mula sa nasabing training at seminar.

Samantala, sinimulan na ring ipaabot ng BFP Bulan ang mga kaukulang kaalaman ukol sa kampanya ng pamahalaang nasyunal ukol sa ‘Iwas Paputok’ lalo ngayong nalalapit na ang panahon ng kapaskuhan. (PIA Sorsogon)

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 16, 2011 – Sa isinagawang press conference kahapon kaugnay ng pagbibigay linaw sa isyu ng pagbibigay ng mga pekeng prangkisa ng tricycle kung saan sangkot ang hepe ng City Permits and Licensing, mariing sinabi ni Sorsogon City Mayor Leovic Dioneda na batas ang dapat na manaig.

Maliban sa desisyong ito, sinabi ni Mayor Dioneda na inilipat na rin niya ng tanggapan si Pura kasama ng isa pang nasasangkot sa kontrobersya mula sa tanggapan ng human resource management. Nagtalaga din si Dioneda ng officer-in-charge sa permits and licensing office maliban pa sa atas niyang pagbuo ng tatlo kataong investigating committee na mag-iimbestiga sa kaso at makagawa ng konklusyon ukol dito, tatlumpong araw mula nang buuin ito noong Miyerkules ng nakaraang lingo.

Sinabi pa ni Dioneda na makakaasa ang lahat na isasapubliko ang magiging resulta ng imbestigasyon at sa tulong ng city legal counsel ay agad din niyang aaksyunan kung sakaling may criminal liabilities na dapat sagutin ang mga sangkot. Tututukan din niya umano ang kasong ito upang muling maibangon ang imahen ng permit and licensing section na nabahiran ng anomalya. (fej/PIA Sorsogon)

DENR salutes Filipinos for PPUR’s election as one of New 7 Wonders of Nature

LEGAZPI CITY, (Nov. 16) – Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje today expressed gratitude for the Filipino people all over the world for the successful election of the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

“The Almighty wrought this masterpiece of nature, but we thank our people for its election as one of the seven best among the many wonders that nature has scattered all over our planet,” Paje said.

He added:  “By taking the time and making the effort to vote for the PPUR through text messages and through the Internet, our people, both at home and abroad – as well as our many friends among the international community – we were able to amass the number of votes necessary to catapult the PPUR from a local to a global jewel.  This is definitely a victory for the Filipino people.”

Paje described PPUR’s victory as a “collective accomplishment of Filipinos all over the world,” saying that the campaign embarked on by the government and the private sector for PPUR, which he said was encouraged and supported by President Benigno Aquino III, was one that “we can all be proud of, and which we hope to nurture as a mass base of support for environmental causes.”

Paje, who served as the national campaign manager for the PPUR, expressed gratitude to President Aquino for his total support, for issuing Presidential Proclamation 182 creating a task force comprising of government agencies and the private sector to “ensure there is oneness in goal.” 

He also gave thanks to major government agencies involved in the campaign, particularly the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Tourism  (DOT), which served as chair and co-chair of the task force, respectively, and the private sector led by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan, Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn, publicist Tony Abaya and all others who  tirelessly worked during the campaign.

“Once again, it has been shown that environment can indeed be a unifying factor for the country; and that if we all unite, there is no reason to fail,” he stressed.

Paje said that despite the many problems besetting the country, Filipinos remains a “lucky race” for having been endowed not only with rich natural resources that could not be found anywhere else in the world, but also of citizens with great talents and beauty of heart.  He particularly mentioned boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who has since been a source of national pride but also a “unifying factor” in the national front particularly during his fights.

 “Definitely, we will not run out of great talents in this country who, somehow put the country in the world map,” he said, citing Ms. World first runner up Gwendolyn Ruais and Ms. Universe 3^rd runner up Shamcey Supsup as the latest to have brought honors to the country but also inspiration to the Filipino people. Army clash with NPA rebels during Pacman Fight

Milagros, Masbate, (Nov 15) – Despite the much hyped Pacman boxing fight, Army soldiers clashed with communist rebels in a hinterland village of Masbate early morning on Sunday, Nov 13. LtCol Jun Pacatan, Commanding Officer of the 9th Infantry Battalion said the encounter happened in Matagbac Village, Milagros town around 6AM.

“I sent a team of soldiers led by 2LT Francis Alfie Tuazon to arrest the rebels who were extorting the residents in the area when the soldiers were fired upon by more or less 10 rebels. Heavy exchange of gunfire followed afterwards,” said Pacatan.

The rebels fled with their casualties prompting a running gun battle which lasted 15 mins. No one was injured among the government troops. The soldiers confiscated one M16 armalite rifle, one M653 baby armalite, 2 hand guns and 20 improvised bombs.

          “The villagers are fed up by this NPA extortion,” said Pacatan. “While the soldiers are providing medical mission and feeding programs, the communist rebels continue to ask money from them,” he added further.

He also said that they have missed Pacman’s fight because of our relentless pursuit operations. “Like Pacman, we want to win this fight against extortionists,” he also said.

Meanwhile, Major General Josue Gaverza, Commander of the 9^th Inf Division has directed the soldiers to remain vigilant despite the Pacquiao fight.
