FIDA launches abaca disease management project cum training in Irosin town

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 25 (PIA) ……The Fiber Development Authority (FIDA) in close tandem with the local government of Irosin has launched yesterday the Abaca Disease Management Project cum Training at the Patag Eco Park with 80 participants in attendance from its several identified abaca potential producing barangays.

Irosin municipal mayor Eduardo F. Ong, Jr in his message said that the local government of Irosin has seen best opportunity in the abaca as an industry in their locality, it being one of the best plants that can be propagated in their town given the topography, land classification and weather conditions within the areas identified as planting sites based on FIDA’s assessment.

Mr. Daniel L. Lachica, FIDA Development Officer here in the province said that the training was more on the identification of the “three deadly trio” disease of abaca namely; Bunchy Top, Bract Mosaic, and Abaca Mosaic and how can these be treated, controlled and finally eradicated given the new technologies discovered by FIDA and the opportunity for its massive plantation in the town of Irosin.

Dr. Editha O. Lomero, Ph.D., Regional Director-officer in charge, RO V said that one of the Bicol Region’s best product is abaca fiber and has been one of the best exports of the Philippines before known as Manila Hemp.

The province of Sorsogon according to her has been one of the biggest suppliers of abaca fiber of good quality and since the time that abaca was affected with these three diseases, abaca production here has deteriorated.

The current administration under President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino according to her has pushed to revitalize and rehabilitate certain endemic industries within specific regions and here in Sorsogon, Irosin town has been for the past years one of the volume quality suppliers of hemp.

According to Lomero here in Bicol, abaca has been found out to be one of the region's viable economic export industry, its raw materials needed for bags, home decors and even clothing materials. And now based on the global market needs to the shift to more environmentally friendly products abaca has been recommended.

The farmers yesterday during the training were taught on the disease identification, application of chemicals and the right monitoring on how the abaca plant can be cultivated again to become an economic base of people in the countryside as major livelihood source.

FIDA will also provide job order for personnel who will conduct and assist in the treatment according to Lachica and these will be the abaca propagators themselves who will be tapped.

Mayor Ong has forged commitment with FIDA to start the project and initial funding to the barangays of Bagsangan, Mapaso, Bolos, Carriedo, Cogon, Santo Domingo, Monbon , Cawayan and Patag and  will soon be provided. (PIA-SORSOGON)

Magsasaka at media sumailalim sa pagsasanay ukol sa natural farming

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, November 25 (PIA) – Pormal nang nagtapos kahapon ang tatlong araw na pagsasanay ukol sa natural farming kung saan pinukaw ang kamalayan ng mga kalahok ukol sa mga oportunidad na maaaring magawa at mapagkakitaan sa pamamagitan ng natural na pagsasaka.

Nilahukan ng mga magsasaka, media, mga tauhan ng city at provincial agriculture office sa pangunguna ng Green Valley Development Program (GVDP) sa tulong ng World Vision.

Ayon sa mga kalahok naging makabuluhan para sa kanila ang mga teknolohiya at terminolohiyang kanilang natutunan. Tinuruan din sila umano ng tamang fruit juice extraction, paggawa ng yakult at paggawa ng mga produktong herbal.

Maliban dito ay tinuruan din ang mga kalahok kung papaano ang tama at natural na pangangalaga ng mga lupaing sinasaka, tamang sistema at istratehiya sa pag-aalaga at pagpapakain ng mga alagang biik upang mas tumaas ang timbang nito sa loob lamang ng ilang buwan nang hindi gumagamit ng mga commercial feeds.

Nagpasalamat din ang mga ito sa naging pagpukaw ng kanilang kamalayan at pagbabahagi sa kanila ng mga makabagong sistema ukol sa natural na pagsasaka nang sa gayon ay maiwasan na rin ang labis na epekto ng paggamit ng mga pestesidyo sa kanilang mga sinasaka.

Samantala, sa kaugnay na impormasyon, matatandaang sa naging talakayan noon sa Pilipinas Natin Forum, nililinaw na umano ngayon ang posisyon at kalagayan ng agrikultura sa Philippine Development Plan lalo’t karamihan pa rin sa mga Pilipino ay umaasa sa agrikultura.

Sa mga naging paliwanag, lumalabas na hindi dapat mapabayaan ang agrikultura lalo’t sa ngayon ay masyadong mabilis ang pseudo-industrialization, isang industriyalisasyong hindi naman tunay na nag-uumpisa sa pag-angat ng agrikultura, lalo’t ang mga anak ng mga magsasaka sa kasalukuyan ay iniiwan na ang kanilang nakagisnang lugar upang lumipat sa lungsod. Dapat umanong maintindihan ng mga nasa sektor ng pagsasaka na walang kapasidad ang lungsod pagdating sa productivity sapagkat umaasa lamang ito sa mga rural areas. (PIA Sorsogon)

Geothermal exploration sa Bulusan pinigilan ng Sangguniang Bayan

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, November 25 (PIA) – Inaprubahan na ng mga kasapi ng Sangguniang Bayan ng Bulusan noong ika-14 ng Nobyembre ang isang resolusyon na magbabawal sa geothermal project at exploration na iminumungkahi ng Department of Energy (DoE) at ng ka-partner nitong Summa Kumagai Industries (SKI) sa 3,673.29 na ektaryang deklaradong protected area ng Bulusan Volcano Natural Park.

Ang Resolution No 55-2011 ay inakda nina Councilor Celestino Frades at Councilor Pedro Frando kung saan nakapaloob dito ang pagbabawal ng geothermal exploration at pagtatayo ng geothermal project sa nasabing teritoryo.

Ginamit na basehan sa ginawang resolusyon ang Republic Act 7586 o ang batas ukol sa protected area system, ang National Integrated Protected Area System Act (NIPAS Act), ang kanilang Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), istratehiyang ekolohikal at ang mahigpit na pagtutol ng mga Buluseño sa gagawing proyekto sa kabila ng mga public consultation na ginawa ng DoE at SKI.

Matatandaang ilang mga grupong makakalikasan, cross-oriented group, simbahan at mga lokal na residente ang naghayag ng kanilang hindi pag-sang-ayon sa geothermal project at exploration na ito. Maging sa mga social networking site ay inihayag din ang kanilang pagtutol sa nasabing proyekto.

Samantala sa tatlong mga bayan na maaaring maapektuhan ng geothermal exploration na kinabibilangan ng Bulusan, Irosin at Juban, tanging ang Juban lamang ang naghayag ng pagsang-ayon sa proyekto.

Tiniyak naman ng Doe na sa kabila nito ay magpapatuloy pa rin sila sa pagsasagawa ng dayalogo at pagpapalawak ng impormasyon sa mga komunidad upang makumbinsi ang mga residente na ang enerhiyang hango sa geothermal ay napapalitan at hindi makasisira sa kalikasan. (fej,BT/PIA Sorsogon)

NUJP Sorsogon Chapter holds indignation torch parade, a call to end impunity

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 24 (PIA)…. “Today  we recall the atrocities committed against our brother Filipinos in Mindanao, the “Maguindanao Massacre” and even those extra judicial killings here before that up to this time are still unresolved, a blatant impunity committed against our people,” these were the strong words of Bishop Arturo M. Bastes of Sorsogon  when he addressed the members of the media community and organizations who joined the indignation torch march parade spearheaded by the National Union of Journalist of the Philippines(NUJP), Sorsogon Chapter yesterday here.

NUJP Sorsogon Chapter president  Bobby Q. Labalan explained that the activity conducted is in commemoration of the International Celebration to End Impunity , the 2^nd year recall of the Maguindanao Massacre and the extra judicial killings committed several years ago here in the province that up to this time still , according to him are cases unresolved and are not given the full justice of the law.

Carrying banners with an inscription that states “ Duguan and “matuwid na daan”Katarungan para sa lahat na biktima ng pamamaslang”  members of the media, non-governmental organizations, students, civil society and the organization of the Muslim community here joined the indignation torch parade yesterday to make people aware that the swift hand of justice should be imposed to end such incidents.

Bishop Bastes reiterated the numerous killings committed against the members of media who he said are the bearers of truth and calls on government to provide the right intervention to them.

In his message and prayers, he enjoined the people to advocate peace and justice and that  all people of different faiths be one in heeding the call of peace and ending the merciless crimes committed against people who work for truth and peace.

Hundreds joined the torch parade that started at 6:00 PM at the Sorsogon Provincial Capitol Freedom Park were various speakers made their statement of support.

Bayan Muna with spokesperson Reynaldo Hababag also joined the activity with their firm stand to also call on government to intervene in the solving of the extra judicial killings here in the province committed that up to this time according to him are just gathering dust and seems to be mere compilations of merciless  events.

NUJP Sorsogon Chapter president earlier in the morning yesterday  conducted a series of radio station hopping here to explain to the public the thrusts of the organization, its purpose to assist in the resolutions of these cases and the atrocities committed against journalist. He caled the public to join them in their desire and move to end impunity. (PIA-SORSOGON)

Mga aktibidad sa Sorsogon City Comelec inilahad

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 24 2011 – Inanunsyo ng Commission on Election (Comelec) Sorsogon City na patuloy pa rin sila hanggang sa ngayon ng pagtanggap ng mga bagong botante, validation ng mga rehistradong botante, transfer at reactivation ng mga botante.

Ayon kay City Election Supervisor, ayon sa konstitusyon ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas, karapatan ng mga mamamayang Pilipino na makapili ng sinumang nais nilang maging lider sa pamamagitan ng pagboto subalit kaakibat ng karapatang ito ay ang responsibilidad na iparehistro ang kanilang mga sarili bilang botante at mandato ng Comelec na tulungan silang magawa ito.

Inisa-isa ni Filgueras ang mga rekisitos na kailangan upang maging maayos ang datos ng isang rehistradong botante upang wala itong kaharaping suliranin sa oras ng botohan.

Aniya sa mga nais magpa-validate, kailangan lamang nilang pumunta sa tanggapan ng Comelec kung saan sila nakarehistro para sa biometrics data at photo capture.

Subalit kung may mga suliranin umano tulad ng maling ispeling ng pangalan o paelyido ay dapat na magdala ang botante ng kopya ng birth certificate o marriage contract depende sa kung ano ang maling nais itama. Marriage contract naman kung magpapalit ng marital status habang sa mga nais namang lumipat ng voting precinct ay dapat na magdala ng valid ID kung saan nakasaad ang kasalukuyang address na nilipatan at kung wala naman ay sertipikasyon mula sa kapitan ng baranagay na lehitimo na silang residente sa lugar, at police clearance.

Para sa mga bagong botante, dapat na labingwalong taon na ito sa araw na magpaparehistro at kailangang may dala siya ng kopya ng birth certificate.

Nilinaw din ni Filgueras na kapag dalawang ulit nang hindi bomoto ang botante ay awtomatikong matatanggal ang kanilang pangalan sa listahan ng mga botante. Ibinigay niyang halimbawa ang dalawang halalan noong 2010 na kung hindi umano nakaboto sa dalawang pagkakataong yaon ay hindi na maaaring makaboto sa susunod na halalan kung hindi nila mare-reactivate ang kanilang voter’s registration.

Sa mga ganitong pagkakataon, nagpapadala umano ang Comelec ng notice of cancellation sa barangay council na naka-address sa nakanselang botante.

Sinabi ng opisyal na sa mga nais ma-reactivate ang kanilang voter’ registration ay dapat na dalhin ang notice of cancellation na pinadala ng Comelec o kung hindi ito natanggap ay magdala ng valid ID kung saan nakalagay doon ang kasalukuyang address o tirahan at police clearance.

Kaugnay nito, hinikayat niya ang publiko na agad nang bumisita sa tanggapan ng Comelec kung saan sila nakarehistro upang matiyak na naitala sila at maayos ang kanilang mga dokumento. (PIA Sorsogon)
