SKI , DOE to conduct coordination meeting, IEC with Irosin local officials on geothermal exploration

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 4 (PIA)…..  The Summa Kumagai Industries (SKI) Construction Group, Inc. Geothermal Exploration Division will conduct a coordination meeting and Information Education Campaign (IEC)  with the members of the Sanggunian Bayan of the municipality of Irosin today, November 4 , regarding the geothermal exploration activity they are to conduct in the municipality of Irosin.

According to Irosin Mayor Eduardo E. Ong, the Department of Energy together with the SKI requested an audience with the members of the Sanggunian Bayan together with the Barangay Captains of Mapaso, San Benon,Gulang-Gulang, Cogon, Patag, Tinampo, Bagsangan, Bolos and barangay Guruyan of the municipality of Juban particularly to explain the  benefits of renewable energy through the establishment of geothermal power plant,first undergoing the exploratory phase for which their area has been identified for such activity.

Mayor Ong said that this coordination meeting was scheduled last September 20 but was deferred due to the preparations made by almost all local officials because of the town fiesta , the said event held last September.

In a letter sent by SKI president, Albert D Altura  to the local officials of Irosin, he expressed that this activity is a joint effort of the SKI and the Department of Energy (DOE) , particularly to provide the various stakeholders with the right knowledge regarding geothermal operations  and  gain first hand scientific insights regarding the project.

According to Engr. Benjamin Monzon of SKI, they hope that this meeting will open positive avenues to stakeholders to find out the importance of geothermal operation, as the cleanest source of energy.

Monzon said that they have primarily considered with utmost importance the appropriate and most  convenient time of the local officials to sit down with the proponents so that both parties will be given the chance to see how government answers to people's needs through public and private partnership.

Altura's letter explained that SKI will intend to present the activities they will undertake in the study and the areas to be covered by the scientific activities such as geological and geophysical investigations that will mainly involve site inspections and using instrumentations to measure the earth’s natural current without surface damage to property nor vegetation.

Expected to attend also are representatives from the office of the provincial government,  Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office -Local Government Unit, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office, Phillipine National Police, Protected Areas Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management System, Philippine Information Agency, Phillipine Army and PhilVocs. Blood Donors sa Sorsogon handa sa anumang emerhensya

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 4 (PIA) – Aktibo at handa ang mga blood donors sa lalawigan ng Sorsogon lalo sa oras ng mga kagipitan.

Ito ang kinumpirma ng pamunuan ng Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Sorsogon chapter kaugnay ng patuloy na pagpapaigting pa nila ng kanilang Red Cross 143 campaign.

Ayon kay PRC Board of Directors Chair Atty. Arnulfo Perete, sunud-sunod ang kanilang mga aktibidad sa pagbibigay ng mga kasanayan at impormasyon sa mga mamamayan upang maipaabot sa magi to ang kahalagahan ng boluntaryong pagbibigay ng dugo sa tulong din ng lokal na opisyal pangkalusugan sa Sorsogon.

Sinabi din niyang patuloy ang pagsisikap ng PRC na madagdagan ang kanilang mga pasilidad tulad ng imbakan ng dugo na magagamit sa tuwing nagkakaroon ng blood letting activity dito upang hindi masira at masayang ang mga nakukuhang dugo mula sa mga blood donors.

Sa ngayon ay patuloy pa rin sila umano sa panawagan sa publiko na makiisa sa kanilang kampanya at sa kampanyang pangkalusugan ng pamahalaan tulad ng blood donation program.

Dagdag din niya na sa pinakahuling blood donation guidelines, maaari umanong magbigay ng dugo ang sinumang may edad mula labingwalo (18) hanggang animnapu’t lima (65) at may timbang na hindi bababa sa 110 libra/pound. Ayon pa kay Perete, aabutin lamang ng sampung minuto ang proseso sa isang taong kukuhanan ng 450cc na dugo.

Matatandaang dati nang nanawagan si Department of Health (DOH) Asst. Secretary Enrique A. Tayag sa publiko na patuloy na boluntaryong magbigay ng dugo upang matugunan ang aktwal na pangangailangan nito taon-taon.

Binanggit din ng opisyal na nangangailangan ng humigit-kumulang isang milyong bags ng dugo taon-taon. Subalit, 700,000 lamang ang nakokolekta bawat taon kung kaya’t hinihikayat niya ang publikong boluntaryong maging aktibo sa pagbibigay ng dugo. (PIA Sorsogon)

DOE, SKI magsasagawa ng IEC sa publiko ukol sa geothermal exploration sa Irosin

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 4 (PIA) – Sa pagsusumikap ng Department of Energy (DoE) kasama ng Summa Kumagai Industries (SKI) na makamit ang pinakamabisang hakbang tungo sa pagsasakatuparan ng iminumungkahing geothermal exploration sa paligid ng Mt. Bulusan, magsasagawa ito ngayong araw ng Information Education Campaign (IEC) sa mga kasapi ng Sangguniang Bayan ng Irosin at mga kapitan ng barangay ng apektadong lugar.

Ang mga barangay na ito ay kinabibilangan ng Mapaso, San Benon, Gulang-gulang, Cogon, Patag, Tinampo, Bagsangan, Bolos at Guruyan.

Sa liham na inilabas ng SKI na pirmado ni Albert D. Altura, president at CEO ng SKI, inihayag nitong ninais nilang imbitahin ang mga opisyal na nabanggit bilang bahagi ng kanilang pangakong nakapaloob sa inaprubahang work program ng DoE para sa gagawing pag-aaral sa palibot ng Mt. Bulusan kaugnay ng nakikitang geothermal potential dito.

Naniniwala umano silang sa pamamagitan nito ay makakakuha sila ng positibong tugon at pagtanggap mula sa mga ito sa pagtitiyak na lahat ng mga kaukulang regulatory compliance na itinakda ng pamahalaan at mga rekisitos pangkalikasan ay matutugunan ng kanilang tanggapan habang ginagawa ang eksplorasyon at operasyon ng geothermal project.

Tiniyak din nilang sa pamamagitan ng gagawing IEC ay maipapaabot nila sa mga kinauukulan ang mga mahahalagang impormasyon at kamalayan sa publiko ukol sa renewable energy partikular sa paglilinang ng yamang geothermal sa isang lugar.

Layon din nilang ipakita ang mga aktibidad na gagawin nila sa kanilang pag-aaral at ang mga lugar na masasakop ng unang yugto ng kanilang geo-scientific activity tulad ng geological at geophysical na imbestigasyon at pagkuha ng mga manggagawa mula sa siyam na mga barangay na nabanggit.

Lee at kinatawan ng mga ahensya ng pamahalaan at ibang organisasyon tulad ng Community at Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Police Provincial Office, Geosphere, Phil. AGAP-Bulusan launches project “PRESERVE, funded by UNDP

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 3 (PIA)…… The Aggrupation of Advocates for Environmental Protection (AGAP)- Bulusan through its president , Philip Bartilet presented the logical framework of project “PRESERVE” Participative Reforestation with Ecological Support, Education and Research to Validate the Ecosystems of the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP)  in a program launch held last Monday, October 31 at the Bulusan Lake.

Bartelit explained that the project has now been approved and funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In his presentation, Bartilet explained that the first goal of the project is to organize and mobilize communities in the BVNP area as a participatory mechanism to mainstream biodiversity conservation in the local policies and resource-based management plans of People’s Organizations (POs) and government institutions.

It will harness the efforts of multi-sectoral representation from the 6 barangays within the BVNP to organize themselves into an environmental  biodiversity para-legal protection units focusing on field research, monitoring teams and to organize also identified illegal fishers as eco-guides and rangers promoting alternative sustainable livelihood.

The program’s second goal is to rehabilitate the 50- hectare of denuded biodiversity habitat and maintain including its surrounding ecosystems and ecotourism attractions within the BVNP Bulusan area.

This will start off with seedling propagation, with at least 20,450 agro-forestry seedlings to be propagated in the nursery comprising of pili, cacao, coffee and 6,000 seedling of endemic hardwood and watershed seedlings to be planted in identified 6 barangay nurseries within the park area.

Its third goal is to establish poverty allevation mechanisms through the provision of eco-livelihood support such as generation of employment opportunities and capacity building to the primary stakeholders of the BVNP-Bulusan area.

This will involve trainings of eco-guides and Wildlife Environmental Officers (WEOs) and will become accredited tourism guides by the Department of Tourism.

In the plan presented Bartilet, explained that a sustainable para-technical training will be provided both on agriculture and aqua- culture development with 42 participants coming from the 6 barangay within the area.

The fourth goal of the project is to heighten the level of environmental awareness of the primary stakeholders particularly biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of resources of the BVNP-Bulusan  area.

The PRESERVE group will conduct a Dalaw Turo with 8 courses focusing on environmental biodiversity conservation, an impact study to heighten environmental initiatives to become more value-driven rather than economic driven and publish biodiversity conservation materials, manuals and learning guides as information education materials.

The end goal of the project is to conduct a comprehensive research on biodiversity and other environmental management related study and establish a data-repository of the BVNP-Bulusan area.

This will include a monthly monitoring, inventory of the flora and fauna of the BVNP with the help of the academe that will provide an ecological profile of the resource of the six barangays/ communities within the BVNP..(PIA-SORSOGON)

Scuba Surero ng Bulan MPS aktibo sa pagmamantini ng kalinisan sa mga karagatan

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 3 (PIA) – Ipinagmamalaki ng Bulan Municipal Police Station ang pagiging aktibo ng kanilang mga kapulisan partikular ang tinatawag nilang mga Scuba Surero sa pagmamantini ng kalinisan sa mga karagatan at pagtugon sa suliranin laban sa climate change.

Sinabi ni Bulan Municipal Community Relations Officer SPO2 Edgar Calupit na regular at matagal na nilang ginagawa ang paglilinis sa mga karagatan upang mamantini ang kalinisan hindi lamang sa ibabaw ng dagat kundi maging sa ilalim nito.

Isa umano ito sa naisip nilang paraan upang maipakita ang kanilang pagmamahal at pagmamalasakit sa natural na yaman ng bansa tulad ng mga katubigan at karagatan na nagbibigay ng buhay lalo na sa mga mangingisda at mga nanginginabang dito.

Ayon kay Calupit, katuwang nila sa pagpapatupad nito ang mga student volunteers at mga kasapi ng iba’t-ibang mga brotherhood organizations na handing makiisa para sa kalinisan at kaligtasan ng mga mamamayan.

Aniya naiiba ito sa mga kadalasang coastal clean-up na ginagawa ng iba’t-ibang mga grupo kung saan limitado lamang ito sa paglilinis sa mga baybayin subalit ang kanilang scuba surero ay hindi lamang sa mga baybayin naglilinis kundi maging sa gitna at ilalim ng mga karagatan.

Ipinaliwanag din niya ang konsepto ng scuba surero kung saan binubuo ito ng mga kapulisan at iba pang mga indibidwal o grupong may kahalintulad na adhikain na linisin ang mga karagatan at paligid nito. May mga maninisid din sila na naglilinis sa mga duming nakakalat sa ilalim ng dagat na siyang nagbibigay ng kaibahan kumpara sa mga ordinaryong nagsasagawa ng coastal clean-up.

Buo ang paniniwala ni Calupit na sa pamamagitan nito, hindi lamang ang mga kostal na lugar ang kanilang malilinisan kundi maging ang pusod ng karagatan upang hindi maapektuhan ang mga isda at iba pang lamang-dagat na nakukuha mula dito.

Binigyang-diin din niya na pinag-aaralan na rin ang pagpapatupad nito hindi lamang sa bayan ng Bulan kundi sa buong lalawigan ng Sorsogon. (PIA Sorsogon)
