Harassment of suspected NPA rebels noted anew


Sorsogon City, Oct 31- New Peoples’ Army rebels allegedly harassed a far-off community in Bulusan town, Sorsogon leading to a clash with countering Army soldiers early morning yesterday. 
 
Colonel Felix Castro, Commander of the army’s 903rd Brigade based in Castilla town said that the clash occurred in barangay Tinampo at around 7:00 in the morning.

“I directed Lieutenant Colonel Epimaco Macalisang, Commander of the 49th Infantry Battalion to send a team of soldiers upon receiving reports from local residents about the bandits’ extortion activities,” Castro said in a statement.

The seven-man team led by 1st Lieutenant Jerry Colago was moving towards the spot when they were fired upon by 10 bandits, setting off a gunfight.

The outlaws ran off with their casualties after a ten-minute firefight, leaving behind some of their firearms including an M16 rifle, Garand rifle, caliber 45 pistol and improvised bombs.

Consequently, pursuit operations were launched by the Army to make certain a peaceful observation of “Undas” in the area.

Army Chief Lieutenant Arturo Ortiz earlier directed all Army field units to be on their guard for possible NPA attacks during “Undas.” (VLabalan P.I.O/PA)
