SORPPO Conducts Symposium on First Aid. Part of the 17^th PCR Month celebration activities, Sorsogon Police Provincial Office, conducted symposium and actual demonstration on First Aid to Fourth Year High School students of Annunciation College of Bacon Sorsogon Unit Inc., Bibincahan Sorsogon City. SPO2 Nestor J, Aguirre, PCR PNCO discussed Basic First Aid and PO3 Wilbert L Labayo, Disaster Management PNCO discussed Bandaging Techniques. The said activity is one of activities being undertaken by SORPPO in observance of 17^th PCR Month. PO3 Labayo explained further that “First aid bridges that fills the gap between the victim and the physician”. DPWH-S2DEO intensifies drive on RROW obstruction clearing

SORSOGON CITY, July 25 – With reports on high incidence of roadside mishap, Department of Public Works and Highways – Sorsogon 2 District Engineering Office (DPWH-S2DEO) has step-up the clearing of various structures obstructing all Road-Right of Way (RROW) along national thoroughfares within the S2DEO limits.

District Engineer Jake Alamar reminded anew his maintenance engineer on the strict implementation as to the removal of all stuff that impedes the road-right of way along national roads.

All structures that were considered obstructions along national primary and secondary roads, even those that are permanently constructed such as infrastructure projects of barangay and other Local Government Units (LGUs) that infringe RROW limits were ordered demolished.

“These permanent structures I ordered to demolished include utility posts, buildings, houses, shanties, stores, shops, sheds, posts, canopies, billboards, signage, advertisements, fences and amusement places that are deemed hindrance and could obstruct safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians,” said D.E. Alamar.

He also stressed out that pedestrians who constantly walk sidewalks and shoulders are exposed to roadside accidents, and with these, all measures in ensuring the public’s safety must be intensified.

Meanwhile, Engr. Jose B. Gigantone, Jr. S2DEO Maintenance Section Chief, made available the report of their accomplishments clearing RROW obstacles along the municipalities covered by the 2^nd District Engineering office.

He likewise maintained that the removal of obstructions along RROW has been incessant and that they have removed a remarkable number of RROW obstructions even before and that they will never cease in doing their routine work, clearing and curtailing all that hamper and infringe what confines the RROW.

Pitong proyektong popondohan ng PAMANA-DILG inaprubahan na ng PPOC

LUNGSOD NG SORSOGON, Hulyo 25 (PIA) – Pitong mga proyekto sa limang bayan sa Sorsogon na popondohan sa ilalim ng Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan – Department of Interior and Local Government (PAMANA-DILG) ang inaprubahan at iniindorso sa Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Technical Working Group upang ma-review ng mga kasapi ng Sorsogon Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC).

Sa ipinatawag na pagtitipon ni Sorsogon Governor Raul R. Lee noong Biyernes, June 20, inilahad ng PPOC Secretariat sa pangunguna ni DILG Provincial Director Ruben Baldeo ang kumpletong mga dokumento kasama na ang project proposal ng mga proyektong popondohan ng PAMANA-DILG sa taong 2012.

Kabilang sa mga ito ay ang pag-aaspalto ng Burgos-Calayugan Road sa Casiguran, Caruhayon-Tinago Farm-to-Market Road at Lower-Upper Calmayon Farm-to-Market Road sa Juban, pagkokonkreto ng Union-Sangat Farm-to-Market Road sa Gubat at ng Liang Farm-to-Market Road sa Irosin, at pagtatayo ng Level II Water System at River Control Project sa Barcelona. Lahat ng mga proyekto ay pawang nagkakahalaga ng tig-lilimang milyong piso.

Ang mga proyekto ay dumaan sa masusing pag-aaral at deliberasyon ng mga kasapi ng PPOC Technical Working Group bago ito iprinisinta sa mga kasapi ng PPOC para aprubahan at isumite sa RPOC Technical Working Group bago aprubahan ng RPOC at tuluyan nang mailabas ang pondo at simulan ang implementasyon.

Ayon kay Baldeo, hinihintay pa ng PPOC TWG na makumpleto din ng natitira pang mga aydentipikadong benepisyaryo ng PAMANA-DILG ang kanilang project proposal at mga dokumento upang maisumite rin ito sa mga kinauukulan at maibilang sa Phase III project ng PAMANA-DILG 2012. (BARecebido, PIA Sorsogon)

P-Noy’s 3rd SONA drew praises from Sorsoganons; militant groups hushed

SORSOGON CITY, July 24 – President Benigno Aquino III’s longest ever SONA on Monday, June 23, which lasted for almost one and a half hour, drew more praises and positive feedback from majority of the Sorsoganons compared to his previous SONAs, as monitored from various local media outlets and as stated by some bystanders here. And again, the use of the national language made his SONA appreciated by common Filipinos.

“The SONA presentation was made simple yet comprehensible,” said Connie Llanete, a carenderia owner here.

In an informal interview with some tricycle drivers, sidewalk vendors, college students as well as private and government workers, they did not hide their conviction over the achievements the President has presented saying Sorsoganons who belong to the marginalized sector now really feel that the government is taking good care of them citing the ‘Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program’ (Conditional Cash Transfer Program), the universal Philhealth benefits, as well as scholarships and other educational benefits presently enjoyed by the beneficiaries.

The fight against corruption swayed many Sorsoganons and likewise, appreciated the President’s value for convergence and “bayanihan” system as a tool towards achieving good governance.

Touching on the Philippines-China dispute, many were convinced about President Aquino’s stand. “He is bullying a brave front over the China issue, and that is a good move,” said an employee of a private company here who doesn’t want his name to be revealed.

“Crediting to Filipinos the administration’s achievements for the past one year is in no doubt an indication that the President is sincere in saying “Kayo ang Boss ko” (“You are my boss.”),” some others also said.

But still, just as the saying goes, “you cannot please anyone”, there are still those who found the SONA lacking in merit.

According to one media commentator here, though the President elaborated credit rating upgrades, high stock market record, higher growth of domestic product than projected, still the President failed to state the current situation of the country.

“I may, perhaps, have a different perspective of what SONA is, but given all the achievements and future plans of the President, he should have also presented the current status of the country, whether it has been elevated from a particular rank to another rank specifically in terms of poverty and/or economic indices,” he said.

Another media practitioner said that the impressive statistics presented are just but all parts of a political gambit.

Also, according to a few, modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is a lofty dream. But, they are still open to the possibility of attaining this dream saying nothing is wrong in dreaming loftily, trusting the President’s “those impossible may be made possible.”

And to one non-government worker who looked at modernization effort positively, said that procurement of equipment of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and modernization of the AFP show how the President value the life of our uniformed men coming up an effective strategy to make sure these men can still go back to their family intact and alive after every response to the call of duty.

Meanwhile, surprising to most Sorsoganons, militant groups here who were expected to air out sentiments through march rally and demonstrations during the President’s SONA were quiet and were not seen dispersed doing any activity at the city’s identified protester’s area and even along main thoroughfares.

Some media reports, however, disclosed that a number of members of the militant groups here went to some parts in Bicol region and in Manila to join bigger activities there while about one or two persons quietly displayed some placards and streamers at the shoulder of Alice Bridge in Magsaysay St., Sorsogon City. LUNGSOD NG SORSOGON, Hulyo 24 (PIA) – Kahit naging mas mahaba ang naging talumpati ng Pangulo sa kanyang pangatlong State of the Nation Address (SONA) kahapon na umabot sa isa’t kalahating oras kumpara sa kanyang SONA noong 2011, tinutukan pa rin ito ng mga Sorsoganon hanggang sa matapos ito.

Taliwas sa naging reaksyon sa SONA ng Pangulo noong nakaraang taon, kung saan hati ang reaksyon ng mga Sorsoganon, mas marami ang natuwa at naghayag ng pagpuri ngayon sa talumpati ng Pangulo na tinagurian niyang “Ulat kay Boss” ukol sa kasalukuyang kalagayan ng bansa ngayon.

Hindi naitatwa ng ilang mga nanood ang pagsang-ayon sa ilang mga nagawa ng pamahalaan at sinabing mas naramdaman ng mga Sorsoganon ngayon sa iallim ng kasalukuyang administrasyon ang pagtulong sa mga mahihirap na mabawasan ang mga pasanin nito tulad ng pagbibigay ng Conditional Cash Transfer, mga benepisyong pangkalusugan tulad ng pag-eenrol sa Philhealth kasama na rin ang mga benepisyong pang-edukasyon.

Kumbinsido din ang ilan sa iniulat na paglago ng ekonomiya at sa mga balak pa ng Pangulo para sa susunod na taon at bago siya bumaba sa pwesto.

Ayon naman sa iilan, masyado umanong mataas ang panaginip ng Pangulo ukol sa modernisasyon ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas, subalit naging bukas pa rin ang mga ito sa posibilidad ng realisasyon nito sabay sa pagsasabing walang masamang mangarap at sinusugan din ng mga ito ang linya ng Pangulo na “Maaring gawing posible ang imposible” .

Samantala, naging tahimik at mapayapa naman ang lalawigan ng Sorsogon buong araw kahapon at maliban sa ilang mga placard na iniwan sa may bahagi ng Alice Bridge sa Magsaysay St, Sorsogon City ay halos walang gaanong nakitang mga militanteng grupong nagmartsa kaugnay ng ginawang SONA ng Pangulo kahapon.

Binatikos din ng ilan ang naging kaganapan sa Commonwealth Avenue kahapon kung saan nagkaroon ng girian sa pagitan ng PNP at raliyista. Anila’y hindi dapat na nagiging marahas ang pagpapahayag ng mga sentimyento, bagkus ay gawin ito sa mahinahong paraan lalo na’t hindi kaaway ang pamahalaan kundi katuwang ng bawat isa sa pag-abot ng kaunlarang minimithi.
