SORSOGON CITY, August 20 (PIA) – Department of Trade
and Industry (DTI) Bicol Regional Director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco together with
DTI-Sorsogon Provincial Director Leah A. Pagao awarded a total of Php1.5
million Bottom-Up-Budgeting (BUB) Project Funds to the municipalities of Matnog
and Prieto Diaz, simultaneously last August 7, 2013.
Prov’l. Dir. Pagao said that the BUB Project Fund is intended
to sustain the poverty reduction strategy of the government. The BUB is the
government’s new approach to the preparation of the national budget to trim
down poverty and achieve the country’s Millennium Development Targets (MDG). It
was first introduced in the 2012 budget process and is now on its second budget
cycle.
Mayor Emilio G. Ubaldo of Matnog received the check in
the amount of Php1,000,000.00 while Mayor Benito L. Doma of Prieto Diaz
received the amount of Php500,000.00.

Officer Senen Malaya said the Local Government Unit (LGU) of
Matnog aims to improve the Eco-Tourism service providers in the food and
handicraft industries of the municipality.
On the other hand, Prieto Diaz focuses on the
development of its processed food that includes coconut and its by-products,
“danggit” and other marine products, and other related processed food products.
Mr. Malaya said that the two LGUs aim to improve their
food and handicraft industries thru the conduct of skills and entrepreneurship
training programs that will prepare the local producers and processors to be
competitive.
He further said that assistance will also be provided
along product development where existing products will be improved in terms of
functionality, quality, design and visual impact.
“To complete the package of interventions, marketing
support programs are also scheduled for the beneficiaries,”
