DAR shares National Convergence Initiatives accomplishments in Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 9 (PIA) ….. According to Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer (PARO) Roseller R. Olayres of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) office here, the National Convergence Initiative (NCI) launched April of this year  have implemented already several development projects in Sorsogon City, Castilla, and Casiguran, the three selected convergence pilot areas in the province of Sorsogon.

The proposed projects presented during the launch forming part of the Sorsogon Development Investment Plan for these three areas for 2011-2015 were organic farming, coconut, pili and pineapple production, livestock raising, forest and fruit trees planting, and aquamarine production and  will be implemented by the three lead agencies, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)  Department of Agriculture (DA) and DAR.

In the municipality of Castilla, the targeted local agrarian reform communities have  already undertaken participatory  coconut planting, establishment of coconut nursery, livestock integration, salt fertilization, intercropping, seaweed input assistance  and agro-forestry.

In the local agrarian communities of the municipality of Casiguran, the three lead agencies have already implemented the following projects: participatory coconut planting, intercropping, livestock production, establishment of tilapia hatchery, seaweed culture production, aqua silvi- production and establishment of the pili nursery.

Meanwhile in the city of Sorsogon agrarian reform areas, according to Olayres projects such as participatory coconut planting, intercropping, livestock production and establishment of tilapia hatchery were already implemented.

The assistance provided also by the Philippine Coconut Authority, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, together with DA ,DENR, DAR and the three LGUs concerned made the implementation successful according to Olayres.

The national convergence initiative is the government’s strategy for poverty alleviation  that will eventually better the quality of life of people along the countryside and appreciate the value of their land as a a best source of opportunity for development. (PIA-SORSOGON)

Katubigan ng Sorsogon ligtas pa rin sa red tide; clay epektibo sa pagsugpo sa red tide

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 9 (PIA) – Buhay pa rin ang industriya ng shellfish sa Sorsogon at patuloy pa ring makakakain ng masasarap na shellfish ang mga Sorsoganon matapos na ihayag ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) na nananatiling ligtas sa Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) sanhi ng red tide ang katubigan sa buong lalawigan.

Sa pinakahuling Shellfish Bulletin No. 23 na may petsang Nobyembre 2, 2011, sinasabi ditong nananatiling negatibo sa red tide toxin ang Juag Lagoon sa bayan ng Matnog at look ng Sorsogon dito sa lungsod ng Sorsogon. Sa kasalukuyan ay apat na mga lugar na lamang sa bansa ang tinututukan ng BFAR na positibo pa rin sa red tide. Ito ay ang Dumanquillas Bay sa Zamboanga del Sur, Murcielagos Bay sa Zamboanga del Norte at Misamis OccidentalMasinloc Bay sa Zambales at Matarinao Bay sa eastern Samar.

Samantala, natuklasan ng Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (DoST-PCAMRD) at ng Univerity of the Philippines – Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI) na isang bolang gawa sa natural na clay o luwad ang isa sa mga epektibong pangsugpo sa Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) o pagdami ng red tide toxin.

Ipinaliwanang ni Dr. Rhodora V. Azansa, program leader ng PhilHABS at co-project leader ng clay ball technology na ang isang bolang gawa sa clay ay may kakayahang pagsama-samahin ang mga organismo ng red tide na nasa ibabaw ng tubig at panatilihin sila sa ilalim kung saan doon mamamatay ang mga organism sa oras na dumikit ito sa clay ball.

Sinabi din ni Azansa na una na nilang ginawa ito sa Masinloc Bay sa Zambales at napatunayan nilang epektibo ito at walang anumang negatibong epekto sa mga yamang tubig tulad ng tahong at bangus.

Sa unang yugto ng ginawa nilang proyekto, gumamit ang mga mananaliksik ng isangdaang kilo ng luwad na lupa mula sa lalawigan ng Camarines para gamitin sa Zambales at Pangasinan at napatunayan nilang epektibo ito.

Naniniwala din umano silang ang mga luwad na lupa mula mismo sa mga lugar na mayroon ding red tide ay maaari ding magamit sa uri ng teknolohiyang ito. (PIA Sorsogon)

Sistemang ‘Read and Bill’ ipinatutupad na ng SORECO II

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 9 (PIA) – Patuloy nang ipinatutupad ngayon ng Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (SORECO II) ang sistemang ‘Read and Bill’ sa ilalim ng kanilang modernization at computerization program.

Sa ipinalabas na notice ng SORECO II, sinabi ng pamunuan nito na sa ilalim ng sistemang ito, malalaman na agad ng mga kunsumidor ang kanilang konsumo sa araw ng pagbasa ng kunsumo sa kanilang electric meters sa pamamagitan ng ibibigay sa kanilang tape receipt.

Ang tape receipt na nagsisilbing statement of account ng kunsumidor ay agad nang ibibigay ng meter reader na babayaran naman ng kunsumidor sa loob ng itinakdang panahon ng kooperatiba.

Wala na ring kapangyarihang mangolekta ng bayad mula sa mga konsumidor ang bill collecting agent kundi direkta na itong babayaran ng mga kunsumidor sa kanilang tanggapan kung kaya’t maiiwasan na rin ang mga reklamong tulad ng hindi nakaabot sa tanggapan ng Soreco II ang kanilang ibinayad.

Sa kasalukuyan ay walang nakikitang depekto sa ipinatutupad na bagong sistema at mas nagugustuhan na rin ito ngayon ng mga kunsumidor. (PIA Sorsogon)

DTI reports bright opportunities of “ bayong” production in Sorsogon

SORSOGON CITY, NOVEMBER 8 (PIA)….Through the convergence efforts here by the different local governments, government line agencies , private sectors and local manufacturers, the Department of Trade and Industry, through its provincial director Leah Pagao said that bayong production has been intensified as Sorsogon’s one best export product.

Marinella Hernandez division chief of DTI Sorsogon product division reported the voluminous demand of bayong in both the local and global markets as reflected in the sales given by the different local manufacturers here in several activities held here and Manila last month.

The just concluded Orgulyo nin Bicol held in Manila made a very remarkable sales as recorded from 2009 to June 2011 activities and events initiated by DTI for the Bayong Product Development generated P11,821,500 investments.

Export sales generated P33, 867.713 while in the domestic scene it generated 1,206 jobs. DTI has assisted 405 Small and Medium Enterprise and developed 315 new enterprises in the region.

Bayong is a local product made here out of the local materials such as karagumoy, buri pandan, seagrass (locally named agas), abaca, water hyacinth, bamboo and rattan.

It has also been recommended by almost all local government here as the alternative biodegradable material  vis-a vis plastic shopping bags.

It is now widely promoted as a a product to be used as shopping bag/ container consistent with Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Waste Management Act.

Sorsogon being one of the biggest sources of these raw materials if provided with the right support and assistance through the massive propagation of these plants in the countryside can make bayong production as of one of the products that will create solution to poverty here and propel employment specially among women according to Pagao.

DTI Sorsogon,explained that bayong production requires only low investment and light technology as this can be mass produced in homes.

If fully supported by all local government units, according to Pagao, it will ultimately help revolutionalize the development of SMEs in the countryside.

The use of bayong  will also lessen the use of plastics thus reduce non-biodegradable waste harmful to the environment.

It will promote job generation and, help boost our local designers' creativity as the use of bayong is now trendy to fashion enthusiasts who promote eco-friendly bags.

It will also lessen soil erosion and flooding should massive propagation of these plants along the countryside be done.

DTI in the current Kasanggayahan Festival 2011 has reported that the sales generated by the local governments and producers who joined in the one month activity here  have sold a lot of these trendy bayongs, a mechanism to promote tourism products in the province.(PIA-SORSOGON)

Experimental at investigative science research tulong sa pag-unlad ng komunidad

Lungsod ng Sorsogon, Nobyembre 8 (PIA) – Binigyang komendasyon ni Department of Education (DepEd) Sorsogon City Science Education Program Supervisor Dr. Nenita Dioquino ang nagging hakbang ng mga mag-aaral ng Chiang Kai Shek School dito sa lungsod ng Sorsogon sa ginawang paglilinang nito sa kakayahan ng kanilang mga mag-aaral sa elementary.

Dahilan umano dito ay nabuksan na ang isipan ng mga mag-aaral sa murang edad sa pagtulong sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya ng komunidad sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng mga experimental at investigative science research.

Ilan sa mga sinaliksik ng mga mag-aaral ng nasabing paaralan ay ang paggawa ng patchouli aloe vera herbal shampoo, moringa o malunggay tea, versatile ginger tea at mga herbal soap.

Ayon kay Dioquino, malaking tulong ang ganitong mga pananaliksik ng mga bata sapagkat maliban sa nalilinang na ang mga kakayahan ng mga bata na maaari pa nilang mapalago sa paglipas ng panahon ay makakakatulong pa sila sa pag-unlad hindi lamang ng kanilang komunidad kundi maging ng buong bansa.

Maganda umanong nagagabayan na ngayon pa lang ang mga Kabataan na maipagpatuloy ang kanilang pagnanais na makagawa ng mga natatanging imbensyon sa siyensya, teknolohiya at modernisasyon ng panahon.

Hinikayat din niya ang mga pampublikong paaralan na gawin ang kahalintulad na pagganyak at paggabay sa mga bata, sapagkat ito umano ang kailangan ngayon ng bansa, ang makalinang ng mga Pilipinong makakatulong sa pag-unlad pangkabuhayan ng mga mamamayan at ng ekonomiya ng bansa.
