Precautions Against Kidnapping for Ransom


At the Home or Office

•Ensure that all members of the family household and offices are security-conscious at all times. If necessary and affordable, hire the services of an accredited security agency with credible security guards.
•Any member of the family must be accompanied if going out.
•For maintenance of household and office, ensure that maintenance personnel come from known maintenance offices. Avoid walk-in repairmen.
•Know the background of your household help, including friends.
•Always keep a number of authorities (e.g. police station)

Inside your Car

•Always be accompanied by one to two family members, friends or companions. A tinted car will help to avoid detection.
•Install an alarm system in order to attract attention of the public.
•Always lock your car.
•Always inform your house, friend or office of your destination.
•When bumped by another car, do not open your doors immediately and stand by to set off your alarm.
•Always be alert when a car is following you and test your alarm when you think you’re being followed.
•If you have a driver or chauffeur, do not let him stay inside your car while he is waiting for you, but have him stay outside and be watchful of suspicious persons. Provide your driver with a handheld radio and/or cellular phone so he could communicate with you.

Precautions Against Bank Robbers

•All bank personnel must be security-conscious at all times.
•Ensure that all security personnel are credible coming from duly accredited security agencies.
•Security guards manning the outside post must be provided with bulletproof vests.
•Banks must have an alarm which can be heard outside and are accessible to bank personnel
•Banks must install a hidden camera to aid in investigation if and when a robbery occurs.

Precautions Against Murder

•Ensure that all members of the household are security-conscious at all times.
•Install any appropriate alarm system in your home. All members of the family must know how to operate the alarm. This will help get the attention of neighbors.
•Before going to sleep, see to it that all your doors are securely locked.
•Know your neighbors.
•Participate actively in your barangay association and homeowner’s association to be aware of who your neighbors are. They will be your guard and protector.
•Know the background of your househelp and drivers, including their new friends. Do not allow your househelp to sleep in one room.
•All members of the family must know self-defense.
•In land disputes, be conscious of possible infiltrators who will know your whereabouts, especially at night.

Precautions Against Rape

For Minors

•Ensure that the child is always accompanied by a trusted elder at all times.
•Know your neighbors. If there are addicts using shabu or illegal drugs and excessive alcohol, report them immediately to the barangay tanods, police or Narcom.
•For a family with a prospective stepfather, ensure that the new member of the family is not a drug addict or an alcoholic, take extra precautions if he is.

For Adults


•When walking, do not walk in dark places, especially between 1 a.m. and 5 p.m.
•Do not ride in public utility vehicles alone, especially tricycles. If unavoided, get the plate number and tell it to your friends or relatives through your cellular phones.
•Know self-defense. Always bring an umbrella, pins, etc. for defense. If possible, buy a red pepper spray instead of tear gas.
