Sorsogon City Sangguniang Panlungsod establishes legislative tracking and ordinance codification, a more developmental vision: Rodigueza

By Irma A. Guhit

SORSOGON CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) ….. Sorsogon City vice Mayor Robert  Lee Rodrigueza explained the new thrusts of the Sanggunian Panlungsod (SP) to effectively assess the ordinances made by the councilors from past to present through legislative tracking and  and ordinance codification as it is now a city to watch in terms of development.

He explained today in the new radio program of the SP, Serbisyo de Konseho at DZGN FM that tthe ask being done by the SP today is finding out all the approved ordinances by the then municipality of Sorsogon and Bacon if these are still in effect after the establishment of the city of Sorsogon.

Rodrigueza explained that the merging of the municipalities of Bacon and Sorsogon to create the new city of Sorsogon,, the  ordinances approved before the creation of the city has to be reviewed and analyzed if these ordinances need amendments or still in effect as now these two municipalities were merged  while before ordinances  were approved for Bacon and Sorsogon as separate municipalities.

He also explained that the different ordinances be forwarded to every committee for evaluation and analysis , find out which ordinances still are applicable and those found out now outmoded be amended or  be provided  a more in depth enrichment since a lot of changes has been in effect due to issuance of new policies.

He further said that examples of these are the new policies in the implementation of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, housing policies that should conform with disaster risk reduction implementation, the use of the 10 percent calamity fund which now is more focused on disaster risk reduction management and a lot more that really needs a thorough assessment and re issuance as new improved ordinance made in keeping with the times.

He also explained that ordinances along the transformation of the city as an economic and tourism hub should also be provided more concern as the city of Sorsogon is a new evolving city.

Rodrigueza also said that the comprehensive land use plan of the city should be provided more enhanced ordinances so that infrastructure development should conform with DRR policies and the need for global trend for safer cities where people are provided more green space, areas for walking and facilities that will promote total human development.

“We are backtracking records of ordinances made so that these will evolve into better ordinance fit for implementation so that cohesive collaboration within the executive and the legislative be a unifying service to the people of Sorsogon City. This is where the executive and the legislative should be more collegial and unified so us to come up with a more developmental vision”, he said. (PIA Sorsogon)
