ELECTION UPDATES IN SORSOGON

SORSOGON PROVINCE (October 25) – At around 1:15 this afternoon today, the Municipal Election Officer of the Municipality of Irosin, Ms Jay Dometita announced the official postponement of its Barangay Elections today by invoking Comelec Election Resolution No. 9078 since she stated, it will be very impossible for them to conduct it properly due to the very late delivery of election paraphernalia. The election will be conducted tomorrow starting at 7:00 AM up to 3:00PM.

In the same manner Election Officer of Juban , Armina Lota Lacsa also announced that voting will also be postponed today in their municipality and reset tomorrow at the same scheduled time. The municipalities of Pilar, Donsol and Gubat have also announced the same situation.

Brgys. of Tugos, Ticol, Talisay, San Juan and Sirangan in Sorsogon City, likewise, declared postponement of elections . Reasons of such postponement include incomplete paraphernalia, lack of ballots and the long delay of distribution of election paraphernalia.

While earlier Prov'l Election Comelec Supervisor, Atty. Aquino said that elections in the whole province will be pushed through, the Municipal elections Officers of the above mentioned municipalities deemed it wise to postpone said activity in order not to muddle the election results and provide voters the chance to really vote.

Some voters in Sorsogon City were also disgruntled with some polling precincts which are not yet opened as of this time due to the very late delivery of election paraphernalia. Some voters who even went home and who came all the way from Manila and some other provinces just to vote for their candidates in their barangay have expressed total disgust as to the conduct of this year's elections.

The heavy rains within Sorsogon City is also expected to cause a poor turnout of voters since a lot of voters went home already specially those who came very early this morning to vote. The very long line of voters at of this time has also caused some more upheaval and some were complaining as to finding their names in the voters list.

Meanwhile the Barangay Elections in Casiguran and remaining towns, although quite late, have been pushed through.

In related development, at 4:00 PM today, Election Supervisor Atty. Aquino announced through a radio interview that extended holiday tomorrow, Oct. 26, will be in effect only to areas where holding of elections were postponed. (PIA Sorsogon)
