Sorsogon City, June 10 (PIA) – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd District Engineer Juanito R. Alamar assured that their Disaster Risk Reduction Management Team (DRRMT) is always activated every time a calamity poses threat within their area of responsibility.

“The activation of DRRMT is in response to every threat of calamity that will about to hit the province of Sorsogon, which will eventually affect not only the lives and properties of the Sorsoganons, but also the public structures/infrastructures within the jurisdiction of the Sorsogon Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-S2DEO),” Alamar said.

Citing the typhoon Chedeng as an example, of which the Bicol area was under typhoon signal no. 2, Alamar said that they have immediately convened the DPWH-S2DEO’s DRRM Team.

He said, even before the hoisting of the typhoon signal, he has right away called for an emergency meeting and gave particular instructions to the DRRM team to finalize the Contingency Plan and at the same time check on the readiness of the personnel to be mobilized for work in the clearing operations and for the possible evacuation of the affected constituents of the second district, checking all at once, the status of the equipment and vehicles that will be needed in case of an emergency operation.

“Alternate routes with maps to be furnished to all stand-by personnel and skeletal workers for their use and operation were also identified and made ready,” said Alamar.

Further, DE Alamar said that Contingency Plan and situational reports have also been submitted to the DPWH Regional Office V and to the Regional and Provincial DRRM Council. (HDeri/DPWH-S2DEO/PIA Sorsogon)
