SORSOGON CITY, March 13 (PIA)….. The Adhoc Committee of Donsol Bantay Dagat in a meeting today, March 13 at Shoreline Resort, Brgy. Dancalan will organize the Bantay Dagat Federation of Donsol particularly to develop and preserve its rich marine resources and sustain the ecotourism industry of their municipality.

Salvador P. Adrao,Jr. former tourism officer of Donsol, now a councilor and lead convenor of the Donsol Bantay Dagat said that today’s activity is an offshoot of the Bantay Dagat’s previous meetings to come up with the different strategies to protect, conserve the whale shark , and improve the existing guidelines in its protection , as the whale shark is their “money- generating provider” that led to tremendous development in their municipality in terms of world exposure, and what made life change in their once before unknown town.

The town, now truly famous because of the whale shark ( rhincodon typus) the biggest fish known in the world, thrives in its municipal waters and have made Donsol as one of the world’s best ecotourism destinations today in our country.

Adrao said starting January of this year although rains were felt in the province, this situation did not stop the outpouring of tourists in Donsol coming from different places the world over.

“The whale shark of Donsol is now a world renown phenomena and tourists who go for adventure of an up close and personal thrill have made Donsol the prime destination here in the Philippines,”Adrao said.

In the meeting today Adrao said that the Bantay Dagat Municipal Federation will be formed and that discussion will zero in on the basic knowledge of all stakeholders in their town to have a sense of urgency in showing how tourism in their locality should be valued with discipline, how tourists will be treated with respect, how implementation of the tourism rules will be assessed and how to sustain their place as a prime ecotourism destination.(PIA-SORSOGON)
