DTI hosts SME Roving Academy for Sorsogon entrepreneurs

DTI’s SME Roving Academy. Mr. Butz Bartolome of “Go Negosyo” emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurial mindset to Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) during the SME Roving Academy in Sorsogon City conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sorsogon. SME Roving Academy is a continuous learning program for the development of MSMEs to make them become competitive in the local and international markets. DTI Sorsogon turns over SSF project to cooperators. Four (4) Shared Service Facility (SSF) projects costing a total of P3,155,000.00 million pesos were awarded by DTI to its project cooperators coming from Sorsogon City, Casiguran, Barcelona and Gubat, Sorsogon before the year 2013 closed. Likewise, several equipment were also turned–over for projects on bamboo, handicraft, food and coco-coir. DTI Provincial Director Leah A. Recebido SORSOGON CITY, Jan 6 (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sorsogon provincial office here is determined to produce more entrepreneurs in Sorsogon venturing to Small and Medium enterprises, specifically in the fields of foods and handicrafts. DTI Sorsogon, through its Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Roving Academy, has already hosted last year at least six activities in the province participated in by some 230 investors from the Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) coming mostly from the handicraft and food sectors. DTI Sorsogon provincial director Leah A. Pagao said that SME Roving Academy was conducted by their office in the municipalities of Bulan, Juban, Magallanes, Donsol and Gubat gathering a total of 140 MSMEs. “The SME Roving Academy in Sorsogon City held on November 14 last year was the final leg of the project,” she added. During the culminating activity, a total of 90 participants from the different municipalities and city of Sorsogon grabbed the opportunity to learn new systems on business management and development. “Various topics by resource persons from the Philippine Trade Training Center and “Go Negosyo” as well as speakers from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and SB Corporation were presented and discussed where our participants picked significant inputs they can use in their respective fields,” said Pagao. Among the topics discussed included the process of Preparing BIR Reportorial Requirements, Credit Sourcing and Management, Developing the Entrepreneurial Mindset and Effective Customer Service. According to one MSME participant, she was satisfied and delighted by the topics given by the resource persons saying, it will greatly help her improve her business operations. SME Roving Academy is a continuous learning program for the development of MSMEs to make them become competitive in the local and international markets. It further promotes entrepreneurship, develop key competencies in opportunities searching, product development, marketing, finance and ways to increase productivity and efficiency. The program caters to the different capacity building requirement of the entrepreneurs in different stages of development.
