Sorsogon PGADC to celebrate women's month activities with significance and fun

SORSOGON CITY, Feb. 29 (PIA)..... "Women Weathering Climate Change, Governance and Accountability: Everyone's Responsibility", is this year's theme of the  Women's Month celebration here in the province of Sorsogon to be celebrated with significance and fun.

It will showcase activities that will promote the inspiring lives of women, their person, their significance and what they have contributed to the development of their basic communities.

the celebration will also include planned activities that they will focus particularly in the implementation of measures to adapt and mitigate effects of climate change.

This March 2012, a month-long celebration of the Women's Month will kick off with a symbolic activity on March 1 during the opening program starting with a Thanksgiving Mass.

It will be highlighted with a video documentary presentation of simple and marginalized women in the countryside, their inspiring lives in bringing up their family, contribution in their community and how they struggle and strive to put dignity into the human face of women empowerment.

A radio hopping /tv guesting will also be conducted with the support of the different radio stations and with topics that will deal on climate change, responsible parenthood, women issues and concerns on juvenile problems scheduled with assigned knowledgeable discussants.

In keeping with the celebration province wide , all Municipal Gender Advocacy and Development Councils will also have their opening activities in their own municipalities highlighting inter-municipality dialogues with the participation of other agencies presenting certain issues and concerns that will focus also on the given topics.

These planned activities will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday within the month of March.

A massive tree planting will be conducted at the municipality of Casiguran enjoining women organizations here in the province on March 16 to signify the care for the environment and love for Mother Earth.

A fun day, dubbed "Women Pampering Day" where women will be treated to skills on spa, manicure, pedicure, body massage, lectures on health, beauty tips and personality development will be conducted on March 12 with the assistance of the Technical Educational Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) while training on livelihood opportunities will be shared by the Department of Trade and Industry tht will provide livelihood opportunities for women to become entreprenuers

A visit to the Home for Boys, a center for abused children will also form part of the activity to conduct dialogue and provide them the needed counseling.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan board member ,Rebecca DL Aquino, chair the Committee on Women and Children Welfare and the women's month celebration, have also proposed though an SP Resolution to declare March 8, Women's Day as a special non-working day for women here in the province.

She said that this day would mean some rest for them in the very tedious role that they do everyday and should be a fun day where they can relax and feel their significance as one individual who have much contributed to society.

The culminating activity will be dubbed a "Night for a Cause" where GAD implementers will be awarded plaques of appreciation for sustaining the GAD programs and attendees will be serenaded by the Himig Kapitolyo and a ballroom dancing will follow with more surprises.

Meanwhile with all the activities ready, BM Aquino expressed her appreciation to the focal persons of the PGADC and the members of the technical working team for coming up with activities that will highlight the value of women in society.(PIA-SORSOGON)
