Carabao Parade and Racing Contest. A one-of-a-kind carabao racing and “beauty” contest was held at Balogo Sports Complex with carabaos artistically painted and paraded on Oct 15, 2012 coinciding Sorsogon’s Kasanggayahan Festival. About 9 carabaos tended by its owners joined the “Parada san mga Karabaw at Paralanatan san mga Karabaw”. Amid the intermittent rains, hundreds of spectators gather to watch the locally-bred 300 meter carabao race. Carabao parade and carabao race does not only preserve our culture but also a way of promoting the carabao as our country’s national symbol, and as the farmer’s main work animal. Winner for the Most Attractive Carabao was bagged by the owner Rolly Himor of Boton, Casiguran. He also took home P2, 000.00 cash prize. While Eleonor Espinocilla of Gubat bagged the first prize with a P3, 000.00 cash reward for the racing contest. Ranny Buenaobra took home the second prize and the P2, 000.00 prize money while Steven Rodriguez went home with P1, 000.00 for third prize. (BARecebido, PIA Sorsogon)
