RRPP’s FMRDP press conference moved to 4th quarter this year

LEGAZPI CITY, April 24 (PIA) – “The scheduled press conference on today, April 24, 2013 for the Final Mine Rehabilitation and/or Decommissioning Plan (FMRDP) of the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic at its mine site in the island Municipality of Rapu-Rapu was not pushed through and maybe held anytime in the last quarter of this year,” Engr. Theodore Rommel E. Pestaño, regional director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Bicol (MGB-V) announced.

Pestaño said the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Project (RRPP) has requested the MGB-V to have the press conference of its Final Mine Rehabilitation and/or Decommissioning Plan (FMRDP) by the 4th quarter of this year citing several reasons for the delay as scheduled.

“The press conference is necessary since RRPP has to show transparency and share information with all the stakeholders about the rehabilitation and decommissioning of its mine site in Rapu-Rapu” Pestaño explained.

“Engr. Rogelio E. Corpus, President of RRPP, explained to me through letter dated April 11 that they deemed it necessary to move the FMRDP press conference by the 4th quarter this year since the management (company) is reviewing the remaining mineable ore reserve for possible extension of the mine life until the end of 2013; translating the FMRDP presentation into understandable language so that it would be comprehensible and appreciated by laymen and the general public; and that the company is preparing a simplified presentation based on the approved FMRDP for presentation to its share holders then to the MGB-V for review and comments” he pointed out.

“After our review and comments and after the plan has been agreed upon, then it would be available for presentation to the media anytime within the last quarter of this year” Pestaño added.

“Mining stakeholders, particularly the general public, will be on a tight watch on us since RRPP is the first mining operations approved under Republic Act 7942 otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and the first large scale mining company to implement its FMRDP,” Pestaño further said.
