NGCP is now IMS certified

QUEZON CITY - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) received its Integrated Management System (IMS) certification on June 19, 2012 from TUV Rheinland Philippines, a third-party auditing firm specializing in international standards accreditation. The country’s sole transmission service provider and power system operator was certified in three management systems: Quality Management System – ISO 9001: 2008, Occupational Health & Safety Management System – OHSAS 18001:2007 and Environmental Management System – ISO 14001: 2004.

The three management systems ensure consistency in implementing procedures and policies on the corporation’s technical and non-technical operations. With the IMS certification, power customers and the public are assured that NGCP’s services are delivered with utmost quality, with due consideration to the environment and the safety of its employees and stakeholders.

The certification covers the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the nationwide transmission network including support functions performed by NGCP’s Office of the President, Administration, Finance, Operation & Maintenance, System Operation, and Planning and Engineering Groups.

Mr. Tristan Arwen G. Loveres, Chief Operating Officer of TUV Rheinland Philippines presented the three certificates to NGCP President and CEO Mr. Henry T. Sy, Jr. at the awarding ceremony held at the NGCP Head Office in Quezon City.

“As an IMS-certified company, NGCP moves one step closer towards its goal of becoming the strongest power transmission facility in Southeast Asia.,” Mr. Sy said after accepting the award on behalf of management and employees. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to NGCP employees, “particularly the IMS Technical Working Group, for their tireless cooperation and dedication in complying with the technical and documentary requirements.”

At the awarding ceremony, NGCP Chief Technical Officer Mr. Wen Bo also hailed the certification as a tool for “continuous improvement of business processes and overall performance.” The transmission company’s Chairman of the Board Mr. Du Zhigang witnessed the awarding which was attended by several other executives and employees.

Twenty (20) corporate procedures of NGCP were IMS certified, including quality and safety management, purchasing, training and development, emergency preparedness and corporate performance management, to name a few. These procedures passed TUV’s assessment and are now at par with international standards.

NGCP started the application for certification in March 2011 which took almost a year to complete. By February this year, after two rounds of certification audits, TUV recommended NGCP to be IMS certified.

The IMS certification is the latest in NGCP’s various efforts to provide more reliable transmission services to meet the growing demands of its customers and the public. (NGCP/PIA Sorsogon)
