Summiting Highest Peak in Bicol. Mountaineers from Tribu Guinobateño Mountaineering Club enjoy the breathtaking view atop the summit of Mayon Volcano, a natural park and a protected landscape declared by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the year 2000. Rising as a giant with an elevation of 2,421 meters above sea level it is also touted as one of the most challenging peaks to summit and the country’s most active volcano. The DENR Bicol along with the Department of Tourism and Albay Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office promote the MVNP as a fine tourist site in the region. Cloud Descenders. Mountaineers descend from Mayon Volcano via the Basyaw Trail on the East Face of Mayon Volcano traversing the Centennial Forest Park in Lidong, Sto. Domingo, Albay. The trail’s moniker is culled from a local term basyaw that pertains to shallow lagoons on lava rocks which the path has several.  The Regional Ecology Committee, chaired by the DENR with the Department of Tourism and Albay Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office promotes MVNP as a top tourist destination this summer season.
